The Autobiography of Tony Levy

About Tony Levy

I am a 60 year-old Tottenham born family man and former prison officer. I am happily married to a loving wife who I am lucky enough to be able to say is also my best friend. I have two step-daughters and four fantastic grandchildren. I have turned into my worst nightmare a doting grandad. I love all sports (Olympic Games in London 2012 come on GB) particularly soccer, good wine, eating out, long lingering evening meals with good friends around the table. Holiday in the sun, and cruise holidays to see different places in the world.

After spending 25 years in the UK’s prison service, and having become increasingly disillusioned with stifling modern prison service politics and practices, in 2008 I took my pension pot and ran, moving to Spain to spend my early retirement in the sun. My wife and I, however, have now moved back to the UK temporarily due to the current economic climate. This autobiography about my prison service life is my first book

Why did I write the book well as I state in my book I was fed up with the press/TV/radio/politicians portraying prison officer and the prison service always in a negative light, and there had been a (I think) Linda LaPlant thriller on the TV about a prison that was so way off reality that it made me so angry I was fuming. The next day at work I was still fuming and one of my colleagues said to me that I should write my book. I had previously said I should write a book about my time in the service, so this was the spark.

The book is approx. 88000 words. Although I started the book back in 2008 it was only when I returned to the UK in February 2010 that I started to complete the book and seriously attempted to get it published. Once I really got started with the book it was quite frightening how the memories came flooding back as if it was only yesterday. There were times when I couldn’t get my thought down quick enough. Even now I still think ‘oh damn I really should have put that incident in to the book’ so really it was amazing how the memories came back

I am not a self-publisher, my book has been published by Apex Publishers and I am on their website under biographies. Here is a link.
